Copywriting Blog - Anti-Bush Advertising
With President Bush's popularity at an all-time low, we thought it would be interesting to come up with some examples of just how mainstream Bush-Hating has become. We are not trying in any way to be political, but to observe a growing trend and tie it into advertising. The following are examples of anti-Bush advertising that falls into three groups: First, from actual companies who in some way send an anti-Bush message while also selling their product. Second, from activists who have bought or created their own anti-Bush advertising. Third, from those who deface signs to make them anti-Bush. Let us know what you think of these efforts: Free speech? To you narrow-sighted screwheads with the audacity to voice such simplistic views on the loss of servicemen in Iraq, regarding how they knew what they were signing up for, I've got only one thing to say:
When I, and presumably most other people who have done as I have, enlisted in the US Military, I asked myself a simple question:
"Am I willing to fight for the defense of my country at the risk of my own death?".
I joined. Clearly, the answer was yes. It was 'yes' for the dead soldiers, sailors and marines in question as well.
These men are NOT defending us. They are dying Pointlessly. The only reason Iraq could arguably provide some manner of threat to us today is because we were foolish enough to go there in the first place.
They died for worse than nothing, and if that doesn't make you furious, I'd wager it's for the same reason you anonymous loudmouths are willing to so vocally play the internet tough-guy on this issue; yet you aren't enlisted yourself.
And to the spineless coward who suggests an 'education' or 'job' instead of joining what is supposed to be a noble cause, not everybody has an education or job accessable to them besides the military.
Were there a bona fide threat to us being fought, I'm sure you'd be meekly enjoying your 'education' and 'job' while men you seem to think are lesser than you died to support both.
All of you, your ignorance and cowardice is no more patriotism or extollably virtuous than blind nationalism is patriotic; you're not fit to lick at the boots of those who've died or served in this war and the mere act of opening your mouths to speak on their behalf is a desecration to all of them.

To think that any service member who goes to Iraq is in ANY way defending this country is a sad sad state of affairs.. Every single person who has joined to server in Iraq has been lied to and/or is REALLY gullible. There is nothing happening over there that affects us at all. (pre war) Now that we've started this ludicrous blood bath, we're basically breeding a whole culture of terrorists. Its our OWN damn fault if we get attacked again. And to think that you are stopping it, you are sadly mistaken.

For those of you bashing atheists, I'll tell you one of the reasons why I myself became atheist: The bible is silly and barbaric. In the King James version of the Bible, Psalms 137:9 says, "Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones." I could go on about how it advocates slavery and says that a woman should never be allowed to teach, but I think you get my drift. As far as i'm concerned, Bush as gone too far. That being said, I still wear a uniform day in and day out. Those of you that say "oh they go over there to..." we don't get a choice. The US was last attacked by another country in 1941. That hasn't stopped the US military exporting offensive war countless times since then. If you haven't yet woken up to the fact that the US military is primarily an offensive force, used to kill foreigners and replace their regimes with ones that the US finds acceptable, then you really don't get it.

I think "atheist" has been drowned in generalization. "A" is a suffix most synonymous with "non".. It's just someone who isn't religious, not necessarily a person who hates religion and crusades to bring it down.
I'm an atheist, and I love. I love people despite their differences, whether they're Christian or Muslim, gay or straight, white or black. I love my neighbor, I shalt not kill, I don't steal, and I'd never commit adultery. I have morals and I have values. I have a conscience that won't let me knowingly hurt another person, whether it's with words or hands, and I've never in my life walked by a beggar and left them empty-handed.
I've also never attended a place of worship or read a scripture of faith.
I'm human, and I'm a good person, and just because I don't subscribe to a mandated doctrine, it doesn't mean that I'm worth any less. It's offensive, to be talked down upon by someone who claims that their faith requires them to love everyone, but they are willing to condemn me.

Both sides of this argument really need to wise up.. I mean, honestly. Around 33% of Americans were against the War from the outset, now only around 33% still support it..
So, clearly 33% have changed their minds about it.. but who are they? Everyone I talk to says they've felt that way since the beginning.. I'm sure they even believe it themselves.

This 'War' in Iraq isn't going poorly because those who enginered it are that stupid. It's going poorly because that's what it's supposed to do. Looking from the outside, it was blatantly obvious that the war was based on lies, and more obvious that Bush would continue to lie about it, and everything else he spews...
Of course people will defend him if their relatives have died for him, otherwise they will have died for no good reason. It's a human reaction - it's that or become a savage and direct your rage at those who caused all this death with this lie, and that would probably land you in prison... so I guess it's fair to fool yourself into the belief that it was a worthy cause.
I can see both sides, and I feel genuinely sorry for those who have lost loved ones. I also feel the anger that the anti-Bushers feel.

Religion, in my belief, is a bad thing. Not because I don't share the beliefs, but because if you look back at all the wars in history, and count how many were started because of religion, you'll find it's nearly all of them.
Hitler had millions of innocents murdered for being Jewish (of course not their fault). Ireland's Catholic/Protestant violence sees children shot dead for their families' beliefs. The Romans fed Christians to lions. Muslims kill anyone who is not Muslim. Are you not seeing this?
What good comes from aligning yourself with somebody else's beliefs and ideas from thousands of years ago, when the world was a very different place? If you're thoughtful enough to choose the religious structure that suits you best, you're thoughtful enough to make up your own mind about life.
Why does it matter what some self-righteous kings have added to and taken away from a story over the years? Even if the basis for your religion is actual (ie: not just completely made up by a nut-job, like scientology), it's been changed so much, what your holy book says these days is probably nothing at all like what really happened.

There is so much of other stuff going on for instant in my own life I don't have the time to go after revenge or anything else for that matter. Yes I've been back-stabbed, people tried to hurt me but I leave this so called revenge alone. Those people who say that soldiers are gullible and uneducated need to go and actually talk to a GI. Many of the people I love and respect are current or former soldiers. They are among the most educated people I know. This war is going badly, I know that. I also know that we took out an evil dictator and did not simply lie down and accept demands of the terrorists. Because we took out Saddam, all the bad guys under him were free to start making trouble of their own. But we can't just "pull out" slowly or quickly because either way the loss of life will be horrendous. We signed on, and now we are stuck with it. The reason that war hasn't spilled onto American soil is because we have an army ready to jump to the defense of our country. That said, I turn to the other topic of conversation. Religion is neither good nor bad. Yes, there have been many people killed because of their belief or lack of belief. The bible does condone awful things. The bible is most definitely written by man, edited by man, and passed down by man. I do not see how it can be mistaken for the word of god when it has clearly changed so much over the course of the centuries. I find the Christian religion sorely lacking. But I do admit that it is Christians who have some of the best ministries. They have fed, clothed, housed, and succored countless people. They have spent their time, money, and even their lives making the world a better place. Even though I do not believe in what Christians preach, I find the thought of a world without them a bleak and unhappy thought. People should not be judged on their religion anymore than they should be judged by their race, sex, or political beliefs. People should be judged on the content of their character. A world without religion would be empty and dull.I hope that some of this may help someone, somewhere.

Why can't we try Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Rove for War crimes and if found guilty, turn them over to Iraqi insurgents. It just seems the "Christian" thing to do! (An eye for an eye...)
I think the real problem is that the military is used as a tool because our government is incompetent. The last resort to political conflict is the deployment of military force. When I speak of this I am referring to Iraq and not Afghanistan. The employing of "the big stick" policy is something our country has become quiet efficient at over the years because of an unstable foreign policy and short sighted view of the world.
Further, while I do respect individuals who choose of their own free will to wear the uniform, I do not believe that this has stopped us from having another draft. I think what ended the draft was Vietnam. It happened for two reasons.
#1 Specialization in enlisted personnel and officers. A draft would not be an effective means to put individuals on the battlefield today (at least not without creating an unnecessary danger).
#2 The protest that came about late in the war and the civil unrest that followed. I do not actually believe our country could survive a draft at the present moment. At the very least it would lead to a very bitterly divided country and this would further damage our socio-economic infrastructure. Worse, it could fragment us as a country and place a heavy burden on our system of federalism.

There is an obvious over-patriotic streak in many Americans, but it's not their fault. They have it hammered into them daily as kids. Take for example the pledge of allegiance.
It's a kind of brainwashing, just like many religions.
But that said, it doesn't make them bad people. As mentioned, it's the government that are assholes, not the American people, many of whom are against a lot of the govt.'s policies and actions.
As a matter of fact, some of the nicest, most forgiving and compassionate people I know are American.
The govt. is to blame for most of the negative associations outsiders make with Americans. For example, I hear it all the time, people say that Americans are all materialistic, fat, inconsiderate and trigger-happy.
Some are, a majority are not.
It's just not possible to accurately stereotype such a vast and diverse group of people.
I think one lesson we can learn from this 'discussion', is that people will always find something they don't agree with, something they hate, and something they want to change about others. We have to deal with those emotions and make ourselves better people. We need to do that on the inside.
Everybody would be happier and there wouldn't be nearly as much blood-shed, if we all took a look at ourselves, and realized that we're not perfect either.
Regarding a comment about Christians:
I agree that generally, the Christian way is to help others, regardless of who they are, where they're from, etc...
And I agree that they have helped many many people, and enhanced humanity somewhat over the years.
However, as also mentioned at least once, Christianity is a derived organization based on a story that has been completely changed many thousands of times, and things like 'eye for an eye' are just not acceptable. This, like many other religions (all?), contradicts itself so many times, it's difficult to know what to make of it.

Anyway, religion should be a guide to help the clueless to be better people. Not a solid ruleset to blindly abide by, regardless of the consequences.

First I admire the brand new respect for human life that United Staters (I won't call u americans because, being south american, I find that term insulting for everyone in this continent)are showing. Yet something is missing. I can't believe that NOBODY seems to think about the iraquis who are dying in this pointless conflict. The children being left orphan and homeless, entire families being thorn apart in both fronts. Maybe Iraq has terrorists living within its borders, but innocent people shouldn't be paying for it.
Second if this is a war on terrorism, why GWB attacks only Afghanistan, Iraq or (as he's probably planning) Iran? I wonder why not to attack Spain, "home" of ETA or Ireland where IRA still exists. Is it me or George's interest is bit darker than u and me thought (OIL DARK)?
Well I feel a little lighter.
