Get It In Writing
Quick
Tip: |
|
|
Before
you write even one word, make sure you have your SWAG™.
What’s SWAG? Well, it’s our way of setting the basis for all
marketing writing and copywriting, whether online or in print
(or in audio or written across the sky for that matter). SWAG
stands for:
Subject.
Know what you are writing about. Be specific
before you start. Rambling and taking too much time to get to
the point won’t get you very far with your target audience.
Where. Where will your words ‘live?’ In a brochure, a
newsletter, on a website, in an ad?
Audience. Who are you targeting? What is your
prospective client/customer like? What does he/she need, want
and feel?
Goal. What’s your goal? What are you trying to do? What
is your desired result? |

In
our opinion, this is the “bible” for any business with a website, whether
you maintain the site in-house or use outside vendors.
Don’t Make Me Think by Steve Krug is a ‘must’ for your shelf of
business books. It’s simple, direct and easily implementable into any
Internet Marketing plan. With sensible advice on everything from your home
page to testing to simple design to, our favorite, writing for the web,
this book should be the next on your ‘to-read’ list. |

What’s on your ‘To Do’
list for this summer?
Are you looking to slow down or ramp
things up? (Or both?)
For me, sometimes too much planning leads to less action than I’d
like. In other words, I plan too much instead of actually spending my
time doing whatever it is I need to do. One of my goals this summer
is, believe it or not, based not at work but at home. My goal is to
tackle a different room, closet or section of my house each week so
that by the end of the summer, I am significantly lighter, leaner and
less packed in the areas of junk, clutter and extra ‘stuff.’ The best
part is that when I feel organized and settled in one part of my life,
the empowering attitude spills over into other parts of life.
I actually really love getting organized, but just don’t ever seem to
have the time to do it. As a copywriter, that’s similar to something I
have heard countless times over the years: Something along the lines
of, “I really love to write and have every intention to do so, but
just never have the time. I’m too busy at work, home, etc. to get it
done.”
All I can say is, “I know!” I can relate. That’s one of the things I
love about Get It In Writing and the services we provide…what we do, I
believe, is about so much more than writing or words. It’s about your
time, productivity and even your happiness. Really, your happiness.
That’s’ because if you are freed up to do what you need to do at work
and at home, then you will be in action. When you are in action, you
are closer to the work-hard-play-harder place in your life…and isn’t
that where we all really want to be?
Yours In Success,
